The Ministry of Education has announced that the university preparatory exit exam will be administered from June 9–19, 2026. According to Dr. Eba Mijena, the Executive Director for Academic Affairs, the exam will be held at 87 exam centers across 51 universities.
A total of 190,787 preparatory-level eligible students are expected to take the exit exam this year. Among them, 102,360 students will be taking the exam for the first time. Dr. Eba also added that the exam will be administered online across all test centers and will cover 238 curriculum topics.

These figures indicate a trend of strong academic performance across many Ethiopian universities, reflecting the overall progress of the nation’s higher education system.
On the other hand, there’s room for improvement in certain universities. Wolega University trails at the bottom with a pass rate of just 41%. Mettu University also saw a lower pass rate, with only 53% of students passing the exam.
