Samara University: Website www.su.edu.et Semera, Ethiopia. Samara University (SU) is one of the higher education institutions in Ethiopia which has become operational in 2000 E.c. SU, the first and only university in Afar National Regional State is located in Samar town, the capital of the Region.

The university is the outcome of the policy of the government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to grant access to higher education to all its citizens and absorbs the ever-increasing admissions to higher education which targets the supply of skilled and educated graduates needed in the country’s growing economy. Thus, the government has spent a huge amount of resources on the expansion of equitable, relevant, and quality education at the tertiary level.
Course Offered
There are 35 undergraduate programs of these some are new and are launched in this academic year. These new programs include
- Agri-Business and Value Chain Management,
- Afar-af Department,
- Civics and Ethical Studies,
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering.
The university also launched postgraduate programs in
- Master of Business Administration (MBA)
- Master of Public Health (MPH).
Therefore, we can dare to say that university activities are not limited to running existing academic programs. It has launched many new programs and it will continue according to the need of the community around and the country at large. We have also identified focus areas for the university’s center of excellence in the academic excels like Sugar Technology, Geology, and Agriculture. Thus, we are striving to realize these.
